Pokemon Holofoil Proxy Creation
Instructions on how to create holofoil Pokemon TCG proxies
This guide will cover the creation of holofoil proxies for the Pokemon TCG. Before proceeding please keep in mind that this guide will only cover the creation of the cards, not the making of the images. The Pokemon Card Resources group should have enough information there to get you started. Please remember that Proxies are not allowed in any sanctioned tournament and that they are intended for personal use and not resale.
The materials used are easy to find for the most part. For my cards I used Apollo brand transparency film for color laser printers. When buying the film please be sure to get the right type for your printer be it laser or inkjet. If you wish to do the opaque trick you may want to stray away from the type that act like stickers. If you don't care about that step you can look for the self adhesive film, they are labled as window clings or decals. you can also go to a copy shop to get these printed off for you, as I reccomend the use of a laser printer. For the paint I have used both an off the shelf acrylic and a model paint. I prefered the acrylic as it needed less layers to create an opaque coating. Whichever paint you choose make sure that it is white. If you are doing this the way I do, you will also need some spray adhesive. I got the Loctite multi-purpose spray. I would suggest experimenting with this. This spray seems to come out rather thick. You will also need a holo foil card you are willing to sacrifice as well as some acetone. Acetone brand doesn't matter so long you get the stuff that is 100%.
Once you've got your materials you'll want to ready your card image. If you are using the self adhesive type film ignore this step. What you need to do is flip the image horizontally. this is so we can print the image out backwards to trap the ink in between the film and card to proect it from wear. This is also necesarry to allow us to add white to the back of the image to give it an opque effect.
If you're printing this off yourself I've got a template for Scribus that can be used. Basically just install Scribus, open the tmeplate then right click the squares on the sheet and select Get Image. Browse to the image you want to insert and it will automatically resize the image for printing. Using this template you can easilyl fit 8 images on a sheet.
Print your stuff out and you should get a sheet like in the image. You'll notice that all white parts of the image are just transparent. This is because printers don't print white. The paper takes care of that for us! This is why in order to make parts opaque we have to supply the white ourselves. careful not to smudge the ink/toner when it comes out. You should wait an hour for it to settle, more if using an inkjet.
Once you have a deck configured click the Server tab to connect to the matchmaking server. Within this tab just press the Connect to gamematching server to load a lobby containing other LackeyCCG users.
Within the player list are two sections. All players and Weiss Schwarz. The same is true for the games list. You will want to stay within the Weiss Schwarz list for obvious reasons. From this list you can choose to host a game or join/spectate a created game. Use the default settings in order to use Lackey's proxy server to make match making smoother. The game will run better if the host is hosting the match directly however. I won't go into detail on how to configure direct hosting, consult Lackey's website for details on configuration if you are interested.
After joining a game you will need to load your deck. In the lower left you will see your name in a section along side you ropponent. Right click your section to quick load your Weiss Scwaz deck. On the right you should see your deck loaded face down. If you do not you can toggle its view with the +/- sign in the top right of the window. Shuffling and other forms of deck manipulation are done in this interface. There are also buttons to perform commonly used mechanics of the game in the center pane right below the game board.
That should be enough to get you started with using lackeyCCG. I won't cover the rules of the actual game here as they can be found many other places online.
